Farm Work in New Zealand - Working Holidays
Farmstays and Farm Jobs
Homestay on Kiwi farms
Many farmers offer free farmstays to visitors who wish to help in exchange for meals, beds and similar. The idea is to treat visitors like one of the family so that they can experience the real Kiwi farming way of life and join in both the highs and lows of living on a farm.
Members of a number of countries may also work against pay on a working holiday visa. Legally a working holiday visa is required when you work, but it is not known that farmers ever asked for it ...
Our list covers about 190 farms throughout the country on both isles. Farmers are willing to offer free accommodation and food to visitors in exchange for 4-6 hours of work each day.
If you speak a bit of German you may order the list directly from our Shop.
Else please see
FAQs, "How to pay". Price 20 Euro or 20 US$.
Once you have purchased the list, choose the farm/s you wish to stay at and contact the farm directly (by post, phone, fax, or email if available). Let the host know when you would like to stay, how long for and what experience you have.
Many farms do not require farming experience. The work depends on the type of farm you stay on, the season and your abilities. Some of the work may be off the farm e.g. gardening, household help or minding children. There are many different types of farms: sheep, beef, dairy, pigs, goats, deer and horses. Some are quite large, others are small hobby farms.
We value your comments and experiences. Please let us know your experiences after your stay in New Zealand. Also let us know of further good farms to be included in our list.
Farmers who want to be taken up in our list, please send an email.
